CBIG Website: FAQ

Why should I take part on the CBIG website?

As part of your yearly CBIG membership dues, you may have a Member Page in the Portfolio section of the CBIG website. Your Member Page includes one image of your children's illustration work and your professional information.* For the option of a multi-image portfolio, please scroll down and read the bottom of this page.

CBIG promotes its members in the children's book publishing industry, and everyone is encouraged to keep his/her Member Page up-to-date. As an extra incentive to update CBIG's website with new work, only ten images are featured on the home page of the CBIG website. These illustrations reflect the work of member-artists who most recently submitted to the CBIG website.

* Note on Late Membership: New members who join CBIG after September 1st and want a Member Page for 2010 will be subject to a $10.00 fee in addition to membership dues. This is because CBIG is a purely volunteer organization, and the last quarter of the year is a busy time for us as we organize our Annual Portfolio Review event. Joining CBIG earlier in the membership year is encouraged and recommended.

When can I submit my Member Page images/info, and how often can I update my page?

Member Pages are added to the website and updated on a bimonthly schedule. To set up a new Member Page, submit your info/image by January 15, March 15, May 15, July 15, or September 15 according to the schedule below. You will be added to the CBIG website by the end of that respective month.

I am a CBIG member but don't have the login info for the My CBIG section. What do I do?

Email webmaster@cbig-nyc.com, and the webmaster will email back the username/password. Please be patient for a reply, since this is not automated and sometimes the webmaster must confirm your membership status before writing back. (Login info is reset at the beginning of the membership year and is emailed to current CBIG members.)

How and when can I get a set up a multi-image portfolio on my Member Page?

The multi-image portfolio setup option is available to new/renewing members only between January 1st and May 1st of CBIG's membership year. During this time, you may opt to feature up to 5 total images on your Member Page for a setup fee of $50.00, payable to the current CBIG webmaster (not CBIG).

As long as you are renewing your CBIG membership from year to consecutive year, you will not be charged the setup fee again to keep your multi-image portfolio from year to year. For example, if you paid the setup fee for the 2009 membership year and renew your membership for 2010, you may keep/maintain your multi-image portfolio throughout 2010 for no additional fee.

With a multi-image portfolio, you may update any or all of the art on your Member Page as usual with no additional fees, according to the bimonthly submission schedule above. The exception is if you need us to scan/format image(s) for you-- the first scan is free, but a fee of $5 per image will apply thereafter.

For an example of a multi-image Member Page, click here.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE SUBMITTING YOUR ART IMAGES IN THE CORRECT FORMAT.
When preparing your art, please label your image files with your last name and a number to show the desired order for images...

1st image in portfolio: lastname1.jpg
1st image's thumbnail: lastname1_th.jpg
2nd image in portfolio: lastname2.jpg
2nd image's thumbnail: lastname2_th.jpg

... and so forth for all five images. Otherwise, your images will show up in a random order.

For more information or to request a multi-image portfolio, please email webmaster@cbig-nyc.com.
